South African producer and DJ Gene Boi is back, and this time, he’s not just making you dance… he’s making you think.
His latest single, “Inqondo,” featuring DJ Cassano and Rose Baddie SA, dives deep into emotion while keeping both feet firmly on the dancefloor. Rooted in Afro House and the ever-evolving 3-Step sound, the track takes its name from the Zulu word inqondo, meaning “the mind.” But don’t worry, this isn’t a philosophy lecture. It’s a groove.
WHEN LOVE LIVES RENT-FREE IN YOUR MIND
“Inqondo” uses the concept of the mind as a metaphor for deep love, the kind that occupies your thoughts, emotions, and entire consciousness. You know… the type where you’re trying to focus on work, but the bassline (and that person) keeps replaying in your head.
Driven by textured percussion, layered and soulful vocals, and a steady rhythmic pulse, the record translates emotional intensity into movement. It’s hypnotic without being overwhelming. Deep without being heavy. Emotional without losing that late-night dance floor energy.
DJ Cassano adds refined rhythmic depth.
Rose Baddie SA brings soulful vocal expression.
Gene Boi ties it all together with forward-thinking Afro-electronic production.
The result? A polished yet emotionally charged record that strengthens South Africa’s growing 3-Step movement. And if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know, 3-Step isn’t just a trend. It’s becoming a defining sound of this generation.
WHO IS GENE BOI?
Born Eugene Malete in Pretoria, Gene Boi’s relationship with music started long before studio sessions and streaming platforms. As a child, he turned everyday objects into instruments (which probably worried the furniture a little). That early curiosity evolved into a deep understanding of rhythm, groove, and emotional storytelling through sound.
Inspired by industry giants like DJ Kent, Black Coffee, DJ Cleo, DJ Clock, and DJ Shimza, Gene Boi has carved his own lane, balancing traditional South African house roots with modern Afro electronic textures.
Over the years, he has collaborated with respected names including, Dee Cee, DJ Vitoto, Most Lenyora, Una, Villa, Symba, Royality, NativeSon, Ksoul, and Nvrth.
Sitting at the intersection of heritage and innovation, Gene Boi represents a fresh evolution of Afro House and 3-Step, rhythm-driven, emotionally aware, and globally ready.
